CABE Students Receive Laptops under KNUST’s SONSOL Initiative

The Provost of the College of Art and Built Environment (CABE), Professor Christian Koranteng, together with the College Registrar, has presented laptops to financially disadvantaged students under the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) initiative.

The presentation followed the 2026 SONSOL Award Ceremony held at the Great Hall, where selected beneficiaries from across the university officially received their devices as part of the Vice-Chancellor’s flagship student support programme.

The College of Art and Built Environment received thirty-five laptops for distribution to forty-five qualified student applicants under this year’s SONSOL Project, with ten of the beneficiaries having already received theirs during the university-wide award ceremony.

The SONSOL initiative, introduced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, has provided more than 4,000 laptops to financially disadvantaged students since its inception in 2021, helping bridge the digital gap and improve access to academic resources.

Presenting the laptops, Professor Christian Koranteng emphasized that the devices were intended to support the students’ academic development and improve their learning outcomes.

“The reason why you are getting this is to ensure that you learn well. And then it’s supposed to help you, support you to achieve your goals, your targets,” he said.  He urged the beneficiaries to handle the laptops responsibly and ensure they are used purposefully to advance their education.

“This is something that is being given to you and you need to protect it with care,” he noted.

Professor Koranteng further advised the students to remain focused on their studies and maximize the opportunity the initiative presents.

“Make sure that it is helping you in your academic journey and that you are using it for the right things,” he added.
