KNUST Architecture Department Explores Chinese Language Partnership with Confucius Institute

The Department of Architecture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is exploring a partnership with the Confucius Institute at KNUST to introduce Chinese language training and deepen academic collaboration.

The move is expected to broaden students’ global communication skills and improve their readiness for international opportunities.

During discussions, the department welcomed the proposal but noted the intensive nature of the Architecture programme, suggesting the language course be offered as an optional programme for interested students, potentially beginning in the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year.
Beyond language studies, the department also proposed wider engagement through possible partnerships with architecture schools in China for future exchanges, research collaborations and academic networking.

The meeting also highlighted plans by the Confucius Institute to roll out a broader Chinese language programme under the Institute of Distance Learning, KNUST, which would be open to staff and the wider public.

Both sides ended discussions on a positive note, agreeing that the Confucius Institute would submit a formal proposal to guide the next phase of engagement.

The initiative underscores the Department of Architecture’s commitment to expanding international partnerships, creating new opportunities for students and strengthening its global outlook.
