The Department of Architecture at the College of Art and Built Environment, KNUST has held talks with Bauhaus Earth as part of efforts to deepen collaboration on nature-based solutions aimed at shaping regenerative approaches in the built environment.
The meeting, which took place at the department’s office, centred on the role of nature-based solutions in rethinking how buildings, cities and landscapes are designed and constructed.
Key areas of focus included reducing reliance on resource-intensive materials and advancing the use of bio-based materials in construction, low-impact alternatives, alongside design strategies that align more closely with natural systems.
In attendance were the Head of Department, Professor Daniel Duah, as well as Dr. Desmond Opoku, Dr. Emmanuel Banahene Owusu, Dr. Akosua Baah Kwarteng Amaka-Otchere, and Mr. Felix Exton-Smith of Bauhaus Earth
Mr. Exton-Smith, researcher in the Regenerative Materials Atlas project, shared insights on material demand, environmental impact analysis, and the role of governance and market systems in enabling regenerative transformation.
He also contributed technical perspectives spanning building BIM modelling, visualisation, life cycle assessment and applications of nature-based materials in construction.
